Bespoke Rain Rigs & Live Atmospherics for Robyn’s “Dopamine” Music Video

MACHINESHOP executed the comprehensive package of on-set practical special effects for the highly anticipated music video “Dopamine” by international pop icon Robyn. Marking her triumphant return, the visually arresting promo relies on a stylized, mood-drenched environment where heavy downpours serve as a central narrative heartbeat alongside the artist. Our special effects crew worked directly on the soundstage to construct a self-contained wet set environment.

Advanced Liquid Rigging & Large-Scale Weather FX

Simulating a flawless, continuous rainstorm inside a controlled studio soundstage requires advanced plumbing engineering, heavy-duty drainage infrastructure, and precise synchronization with the lighting and camera tracking crews:

  • Bespoke Overhead Rain Rigging: Deploying customized overhead spray manifolds from our liquids hire department to project consistent, high-volume rain droplets evenly across the entire tracking frame.
  • Self-Contained Water Loop Maintenance: Engineering localized pumping networks and fast-acting drainage trays to recycle water safely, ensuring zero flooding risks to sensitive electrical equipment on set.
  • Flawless Take-to-Take Continuity: Programming electronic pressure valves to instantly trigger, modulate, or cut the weather effects on a live cue, accelerating shooting schedules for the crew.
